There are two different ways to express the future tense in Spanish: the informal future (ir + a + infinitive) and the simple future (el futuro simple). This lesson will focus on the informal future. The informal future can also be called the near future.
Just as you use "going" + an infinitive in English to say what you are going to do, in Spanish you use a form of the verb ir + a + an infinitive to express the same thing.

STEPS
1. Pick the subject (i.e. who is going to do the action).
2. Conjugate IR in the present tense for that subject (i.e I, you, they)
3. Put an "a" after your conjugated "ir"
4. Add the INFINITIVE (not conjugated) form of the verb!
EXAMPLES
Voy a correr.
I am going to run.
Vamos a hacer la tarea.
We are going to do the homework.
¿Vas a cantar?
Are you going to sing?
